Night Hike in Phoenix

Night Hike in Phoenix

Night hikes are perfect in Phoenix. The cool desert night air and the widely spread city lights make for quite an experience. I usually go with friends. We sit at the top for a while and have deep conversations. It's pretty great.

My favorite one is Lookout Mountain. It's short, but still a hike, and the peak rises almost as high as Squaw Peak, a very famous hike that is much longer. Bring a flashlight and shoes with good grip; even when the moon's out, it's a tad treacherous.

Access: Drive North on 16th street until it ends (just after crossing Greenway Parkway Road, which goes East to West). The parking lot for the hike is closed off at night, so you'll have to park on the curb anywhere in front of the no-parking sign and walk from there. The trail head is at the SW corner of the parking lot.
