The Mogollon Rim is a 200 mile long geologic feature running east-west across the state of Arizona. The highest point of the rim rises about 3,000 feet above the valley floor, forming an impressive cliff face with big vistas. This past summer, Sky and I backpacked the General Crooke trail which is just north of Payson, AZ.
Access: From Flagstaff, drive SE on Lake Mary Road until you reach state highway 87. Forest Road 751 (and a serious unpaved USFS roads) will take you to the gravel "Rim Road." This road parallels both the Crooke Trail and the Mogollon Rim.
