If you ever make it to Bulgaria, check out the coast of Varna.
I have the good fortune of traveling through Europe this summer, and it begins in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has a reputation of-wait, Bulgaria doesn't have a reputation. Not many people travel there, and those who do go to Sofia for the history. History is a great thing and all, but in this case Varna is better.
Along the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria is quaint house after quaint house, and then you hit the beach town known as Varna. They sell cups of buttered, cheesy corn, and have casual dance parties on the beach with genuinely fun music.
I stayed on the main strip near the water where cars are not allowed to drive. Stay here if given the option. Camp on the beach, rent a tandem bike, run through the park along the coast, don't wear shoes.
Also, if given the time, stop to smell some roses there. It's intoxicating.
Not to mention, with the exchange rate and general price of Bulgaria, everything is very cheap. I never spent more than $5 on a meal.
Access: I'm going to be honest, I don't remember the name of my hotel. But stay anywhere near the long park located along the coast, and you will have all of the aforementioned experiences.
