The San Franciscan Peaks in Autumn

Lockett Meadow is a spectacular scene this time of year - the largest stand of aspens in the Coconino National Forest are all changing colours. This is a vibrant scene not to be missed in the Fall. There's a forest service campground at the trailhead for the Basin Trail which is less than a 5 mile access hike to the summit of Humphrey's Peak.
The Meadow itself lies at the end of an ancient caldera, left over from the eruptions of the San Francisco range Volcanoes.

ACCESS:
The road to Lockett Meadow is well-marked but difficult to drive on. So take it slow or go before the snow season starts. From the USFS campground, a clearly marked trailhead takes you to the Wearherford Trail, connecting to the summit trail spur.
